In May of 2020, Koda came into my life. Warning for sad story.
I found a tiny orange kitten crawling around the driveway, scared, dirty and dragging his limp rear end around. I didn't think he could survive. I didn't I could give him the care he needed. On that day I scooped him up, I never could have imagined how much he would change my life
He had a rough start. His sibling was caught and killed by a dog. Another was screaming, climbing up the front door screen. Another was hiding under a car. He was trying to escape
He had no movement in his rear legs or tail. He had no muscle mass there either.
Thankfully, he had no open wounds. I don't know if his spine injury occurred that day or at birth. He was covered in fleas and urine. I bathed him. He was hissing and terrified. I gave him food and a place to sleep. He knew he was safe now
The next day, Koda was puking up plastic and peeing blood. I feared each time I checked on them, that he would be gone.
But he survived.
He played. He ate. He purred. He cuddled. He was thriving.
Every day he looked at me with love in his eyes. Every day he got stronger. Every day I loved him more. I knew he was mine forever.
Some vets he saw were encouraging. Others were surprised that I hadn't given up on him yet.
Koda has had acupuncture, vitamins and swimming to exercise his muscles. He still can't walk, but he can kick and pull his legs. He swishes his tail when he's excited or mad.
He wears a diaper and has his bladder expressed 3-4 times a day. I carefully clean him every time and bath him when needed. He bravely endures it all. His life is worth every moment of work he needs to survive.
He climbs his cat tree with powerful muscles and chases furiends with speed. He loves every kitten and teaches them to brave like him.
He never gives up and he always will work for what he wants.
I appreciate every victory in his life. He has come so far since the day I found him.
He is strong, beautiful and brave.
